The team of 'Future jobs Fund' sponsored staff at Art Shape decided to enter the 'Wearable Art' Painswick competition with our Board Member Jo Callaghan modelling the outfit
The category they chose was :Déjà vu
As a group effort, we were inspired to do the déjà vu theme based on Le Flâneur. One half of the outfit would be a montage of 19th Century ‘must haves’; Pears Soap, Cadbury’s, Coates (shaving), François Pinet (shoes) etc. The other half would be a montage of sewn on labels and iconic images from the 21st Century global consumer success stories; Apple iPod/iPhone, Rolex watches, branded clothing; all items that the elite classes consider if anyone who is anyone ‘must have’.
Accessorised with bags of both eras, the model expresses her identity creation through consumerism, mirroring her 19th century counterpart.
A flowing bustle will adorn her wheelchair in acknowledgement of the 19th century fashion but also recognising that once (or more) in a lifetime, 21st century shoppers will still go for this nostalgic look from their 19th century equivalent on the biggest shopping spree of their lives – a wedding day!
Things have really changed in 200 years - and yet they really haven’t!
