Don't Label Me campaign T-shirts now on All Square Arts Gallery Website

Don’t Label Me!
Winston Hoyte - Artist/Campaigner
The creator of the ‘Don’t Label Me’ campaign, Winston Hoyte, has joined forces with Art Shape to bring his innovative T-shirt designs to the All Square Arts online art gallery website.
Art Shape is a local charity working to make access to the arts a reality for everyone, specifically those facing barriers to participation such as learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health issues or disadvantage. It is these stigmas that Winston’s campaign aims to challenge.

The "Don't Label Me" T- shirts are part of a campaign inspired by being
'Don't Label Me' BME T- shirt
involved in Stonham's Equality & Diversity steering group… addressing discrimination against age, colour, disability, gender, religion, sexual orientation, transgender etc. raising awareness, causing debate and breaking down stigmas” Says Winston.

The concept behind each T-shirts design is to take a face representing a stigmatised group, have a negative/stereotypical label (word) underneath it, then obliterate that label with the ‘Don’t Label Me logo’. On the reverse is a silhouette of that face filled with (personal) words, protesting the misconceptions attributed to them.

“The main goal is an educational one”. To open people’s minds and destroy hate, fear and whatever barriers they have to empathising with people they see as different or ‘other’.

You can buy the T-shirts at the All Square Arts website www.allsquarearts.co.uk and make a donation to the charity in the process or visit Winston’s website and see the other design and visual art services this talented and passionate individual has to offer at www.mancinismdesign.net.
Winston Hoyte: I don't have a list of historical artists who inspire me, my own imagination inspires me, but I will say one thing, M.C. Escher is the only artist that made a lasting impression on me. Before I even knew his name or who he was, I saw his many enigmatic drawings and graphical work upon a series of 'Smile' maths books at my secondary school.
I'm passionate about making a change through my work; merging creative writing (philosophy, poetry, proverbs, etc.) with powerful, thought-provoking, but simple graphics which leave a lasting impression on the viewer...and gets them thinking. This is expressed through my campaigns; Equality & Diversity, Alcohol Awareness and Anti Gun & Knife Crime.

Art Shape is a long – established Gloucestershire equal access arts development organisation. At Art Shape we aim to support and encourage adults in their personal and professional artistic development, and assist them to reach their individual potential. We particularly support people facing barriers to participation such as mental health issues, disability, or people who face issues associated with ageing and isolation. Our work centres around creativity and imagination, equality and access. We recognise each individual’s value, and our approach to our arts work is built on mutual respect, warmth and integrity. So we were glad that Winston decided to add his T-shirts to our Gallery Website as we felt we shared some of his aims and objectives.
