Hullabaloo Gets Helping Hands From Ecclesiastical at Art Shape
A group of employees from Ecclesiastical Insurance will be able to admire their handiwork this bank holiday weekend when an arts & music festival takes place in Cheltenham.
The stage backdrop and the banners at the Hullabaloo Festival have been partly created by a team from the company as part of a volunteering programme for its 125th anniversary. They swapped their desks and computers for printing blocks, fabrics and stencils to help put together the materials as part of a day volunteering with county charity, Art Shape.
Brockworth-based Art Shape promotes equality of access to the arts. It encourages adults across Gloucestershire in their personal and professional artistic development regardless of barriers they may face. One of the events it supports is Hullabaloo - a celebration of Gloucestershire culture, music, food, art and crafts which takes place 25-27 August at Burley Fields Lake in Leckhampton, Cheltenham.
The nine volunteers from Ecclesiastical gave up their time for their contribution to the company’s Helping Hands volunteering programme. Its employees aim to complete 125 volunteering challenges this year to help celebrate its 125th anniversary.
Employees were given information about a range of charities before choosing one to help. They were asked to give £125 each to the charity of their choice and volunteer some of their time to help it in a practical way.
“As a team with mixed interests outside work, we wanted to do something that we could all get involved in so the opportunity at Art Shape was ideal” said organiser of the Ecclesiastical team Hannah MacBride.

“During our day there, we split into two groups – one to create the backdrop for the main stage at this year’s Festival and the other to create banners for it. We really enjoyed it and we got a lot from it. It is really rewarding to think that we were able to help a local charity and that our work will be used year after year at Hullabaloo”.
For Art Shape, the help from Ecclesiastical was a great boost as it relies on the support of volunteers for its work.
“Getting practical help from volunteers and financial donations is how we survive so it was great that Ecclesiastical has provided both by sharing its staff and a donation as part of its 125th anniversary” said Harriet West, Project Manager at Art Shape.
“We hope it was useful for Ecclesiastical too as using your creative skills helps with team building. We have volunteers from all walks of life and in all sorts of roles and couldn’t survive without them. If anyone would like to get involved in any way, please get in touch.”
